Review of KLEZMER SUMMIT, San Diego, CA |
|
|

Who wouldn’t be charmed by the young energetic Bulgach and his clarinet? It made brilliant sounds and spoke volumes. It took us places we’ve forgotten we had been. As my friend Robin whispered, she felt as if we were going to be welcomed to someone’s Bar Mitzvah party celebration while this intense young man played “Oseh Shalom” as a warm-up!
If someone asked me to sum up the evening I would have to use the word Heart to describe it. There were no holds barred and looking around the audience, the only expressions I saw on the faces in my vision were smiles. And, Oh! The tango dancers he brought into his act and played for were the shine radiating from Bulgach’s rising star, or the frosting on the cake, as they say.
I must say I was taken with the young Gustavo. His enthusiasm, yes charm and liveliness energized the evening from the start. I think he could have been on stage all evening instead of the 45 minutes allotted him and his band.
So eager to please, he kept telling us ‘this is just a warm up, a rehearsal.' I believed him. With that energy, he was unstoppable. And he was having a ball playing to the audience.

We heard you at Klezmer Summit in San Diego on 30 June and you blew our minds. Our daughter and niece who were came just mildly interested were amazed.
Come again and often.
I want to mention one more thing. You attributed Papirosen to music written for American Theatrical production. I think that you are mistaken. There is old Russian lyrics that is probably original for the song. "Papirosa" is a Russian for particular kind of cigarette.
Anyway, you are awesome! Keep it up!

Hello from Madison, Wisconsin. I think you're absolutely fabulous and your style far outshines Feidman in my book. I've been taking clarinet lessons for a while now and I think I most identify with your style. I think that klezmer should be loud and high, because it's about a person telling the world how he's feeling and also about how to get other people to dance and feel good about themselves. After my mother bought me your album for Chanukah I can't get enough! Thank you for keeping the klezmer tradition alive in such a wonderful way.

Hi Gustavo-
Just another word of thanks for the superb job you and
the fellas did at our wedding. It was a complete
pleasure working with you and I hope you enjoyed the
evening. Many people came to us afterwards and said it
was the best wedding they'd ever been too -- I don't
know if they would have felt as strongly if it wasn't
for your wonderful performance. It certainly would not
have been the same for us without you and the songs
you played during the ceremony, For Your Love, and of
course the Hora jam with the Mexican Trio which will
live in our memories forever.
Please keep me on your mailing list so we can go catch
your show sometime soon as a 'married couple.'
Love,
Mike and Aurelie |

Shalom,
Your music is so refreshing, deep, moving and happy. It's played with much talent and dedication. Giora Feidman must be your spiritual father ! Not only the jewish soul is enwrapped in it but all the tonalities of the human spirit. I hope we'll meet one day. It's a small world and it's so great to meet so wonderful talents on the web. The world has no more boundaries.
Love.

Gustavo Bulgach and his band Klezmer Juice are true professionals. I wanted a modern yet old-world feel for the music at my wedding, and Klezmer Juice delivered it with moving ceremony tunes, and classic, rousing hora music. Gustavo knew just what music was right for each setting. It made my Shtetl-born grandparents kvell, and my indie-rock loving friends get up and dance. Not many musicians can do both of those things for so many different people. The hora went on and on, Klezmer Juice had impressive stamina. Klezmer Juice was the right choice for a very joyous day! |
